Cuvieronius is a species of American elephant that lived during the early Pliocene until the end of the Pleistocene in North and South America. Although it looks like the current elephants, Cuvieronius is smaller and has a spiral defense pair. It was during the Great Inter-American Exchange that Cuvieronius, originally from North America, was able to migrate to South America where he colonized. Cuvieronius is one of the rare elephants to live in South America.
